| Samuel Shen Basses
In 2003 I sold a Shen 3/4 Willow out of my Cincinnati bass shop. Over the years I've been impressed with Samuel Shen and CSC Product's commitment to well-made doublebasses. What keeps the Shen bass as a market innovator is their willingness to listen to American bass makers and bass dealers. The Shen Willow line of basses is a great example. Willow tonewood is much like Walnut tonewood: resonant, lightweight, and dynamic in color when varnished. The Shen Willow 3/4, Shen Willow 7/8, and Shen Willow Rogeri have been great choices for a fully carved entry level bass. The Shen sb150, Shen sb180, and Shen sb190 are suitable for budget-minded players needing a spruce top and laminate back/sides. The Shen sb80, Shen sb90, and Shen sb100 are remarked by players and teachers as being workhorse plywood basses perfect for all kinds of venues, indoors and outdoors. Finally, the Shen Panormo bass is a beautiful copy of the original 18th-century bass built by Vincenzo Panormo. Broad shoulders, A+ figured maple, and a powerful orchestra tone.
Several Shen basses are available as a left hand upright bass configuration and select basses can be purchased as a 5 string upright bass. Please contact me for current availability.
The internet has become a very useful tool for retailers and consumers. Be aware that the cheapest price offered by a Shen retailer rarely means the best setup work. My Shen basses include upgraded endpins, tailpieces, and a Professional Setup done in my Cincinnati bass shop. This attention to quality means your bass will play and sound it's best. My service does not end with the sale and I extend a 12-month setup guarantee from the date of purchase. |
